Course Description

Upon completing the course, participants will: 

 

  • Understand the benefits and potential of urban farming

  • Understand the characteristics of an urban farm as a property facility

  • Understand how urban farming can enhance stakeholder engagement

  • Understand the basic requirements for integrating an urban farm into urban commercial properties

  • Understand the process and procedures for managing urban farms as part of property management value chain

  • Gain insights from both local and international case studies 

Although this course has now moved online, we will ensure to make the video class as interactive and engaging as possible! You will still have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and engage in conversation throughout the day.

Course Topics

Through talks, case study sharing and hands-on sessions, this course aims to provide participants with an overview of the basic principles for managing an urban farm in their properties, and an all-rounded understanding on how to integrate an urban farm into various types of properties - retail, office, residential, hospitality and more.

  • Requirements and checklist of designing, building and integrating urban farms into your properties

  • Latest policies, guidelines and standards regarding urban farming in Hong Kong

  • Integrated urban farming management (facility integration, waste management, farming cycles, organic farming considerations)

  • Stakeholder management and reporting

  • Smart Farming Technologies & its application in urban rooftop farming

  • Case Study Sharing

  • Hands-On Activities

  • Visit the rooftop farm at the Jockey Club Environmental Building (the farm tour will be scheduled for you at a later date after the online course, when social distancing rules have been relaxed)

HOW TO RECEIVE THE REINDUSTRIAL AND TECHNOLOGY TRAINING PROGRAMME (RTTP) SUBSIDY FOR THIS COURSE

1. CONFIRM YOUR COMPANY is eligible FOR THE SUBSIDY by 27th July

While most companies should qualify for the subsidy, there are some qualifications, including

  • needing a company Business Registration (BR)

  • the employee(s) attending must be Hong Kong Permanent Residents and have an HKID

  • your company must have not exceeded the RTTP funding limit for your fiscal year, and your company must have more than one employee.

Please fill out the RTTP training grant application form and email the completed form to rttp@vtc.edu.hk by 27 July with your company and employee details to confirm whether you are eligible for the RTTP subsidy. You will hear back from VTC on whether your grant application has been approved within 1-2 weeks.

2. REGISTER FOR THE COURSE by 10th August 

Fill out the form and we will email you registration form to send in and complete your registration! Registration closes on Monday, 10th August. But if you register by 31st July, you'll receive an Early Bird Discount of an additional 5% off your registration fee!

3. attend the course and complete the RTTP Application Forms

After you attend the course, complete the Training Grant Claim Form (Form 3A) - you may need your HR department to help you complete this form! During the course, we will provide you with a completed Confirmation of Training Completion and Payment (Form 4A). Submit both forms to receive your reimbursement.

Terms & Conditions: 

  • Duly completed application form accompanied by payment will be considered for admission; 

  • Course fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and should be received by BEC IEE no later than 5 working days before the commencement of the course;

  • For Early Bird Discount, course fee should be received by BEC IEE before the specified Early Bird Discount due date. For Group Discount, course fee should be received by BEC IEE in a single transaction;

  •  Admission is made on a first-come-first-served basis; 

  • Successful applicants will be notified no later than 3 working days before the commencement of the course;

  • Unsuccessful applicants will be given refund of course fees if they have already paid; 

  • The course will be cancelled with full refund when the typhoon signal no.8 or above, or black storm warning is hoisted 3 hours before the course commences; 

  • An official e-receipt will be distributed through email to the participant upon the completion of the course; 

  • BEC reserves the right not to conduct the course if the applications are below the required minimum number of participants, and course fees received will be refunded. All decisions made by BEC on matters related to the courses are final; 

  • Personal data including contact information will be used by BEC and Rooftop Republic for its communications and direct marketing purpose, including newsletters and promotions of events, training courses and other activities.
