Year-round growing season

At least 6 hours of sunlight daily

Marigolds need full sun for best growth

They won't grow as well in part-shade and flowering will be delayed

Low amount of water

Marigolds are somewhat drought tolerant but flower best if the soil is slightly moist

 

Plant in a planter that has at least 20cm soil depth

Plant the seedlings at least 10-20 inches apart

Never allow the soil to remain soggy, as wet conditions invite root rot and other moisture-related diseases
Marigolds are poisonous to goats and sheep but not to cattle or horses
Marigold produces flowers all year round under optimal weather conditions; majority of the species bloom under summer and fall
Dyes extracted from the marigold flowers are used in the textile and food industry
